SOLSTICE CRAFTS: SHAMANS, MUSHROOMS and REINDEER

This range of solstice crafts depicting folksy shamans, mushrooms and decorative reindeer, honours an ancient solstice shamanic custom. Many of these old beliefs have found their way into our modern customs, but we have forgotten their true origins.

The shamans gathered those fairytale Amanita Muscaria mushrooms in early winter and hung them in pine trees to dry. The mushrooms were then distributed to the tribe at the time of the winter solstice – through the chimney if doorways were snowed up! Reindeer too, loved these fly agaric mushrooms – so called because they induce an euphoric feeling of flying.
