Toile means "cloth" in French and “Toile de Jouy,” refers to fabric that was first manufactured in 1760 at a factory in the village Jouy-en-Josas, near Versailles. The fabric was printed using copper plate engravings that depicted country scenes.
I do my "toile" engravings on scraperboard and decided on a reindeer motif teamed with bold traditional Nordic folk braids for a new take on Toile de Jouy. |
